Bird Tax!

Tax day is also usually Migrating Birds Return Day! The early birds start arriving soon!

They travel a long way and will be hungry! They come up north to breed in the warm weather and travel south again in the fall.

Dust off and clean your hummingbird and oriole feeders.

Add nectar water for the hummers.

  • 1 part sugar to 4 parts water.

  • Boil water.

  • Mix with sugar until dissolved.

  • Cool water.

  • Add to feeder, filling only halfway.

  • Don't use color in the water.

Hang oranges sliced in pieces for orioles. I like to reuse the suet cages for this. They also enjoy grape jelly.

Listen for the sounds of the oriole arrivals. They're usually pretty chattery. Look to the top of the trees to see if you see them.
