Cold protections

The growing season appears to end at the start of cold and flu season. Hrm. Do you think the timing is related? 😉

What if the only months you didn’t grow food were Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb?

Make a small change this year. Cover your growing produce instead of tearing it out this fall! Sprinkle lettuce and carrot seeds and keep them watered well. See what happens!

This can work for 5 gallon bucket gardens too!

AND we can do the same thing in the very early spring as well 😀

Covers don't have to be complicated! Lots of them are PVC piping and wood of some sort. Some of them are tree branches and PVC.

They just need to be strong enough to stay up during heavy snow and thick enough to keep the frost away and secure enough to stop cold winds from blowing in or strong winds from blowing the covers off…

Try covering just one bed this year and see what happens! Frost cloth is good for October and plastic is better for the rest of the year.

The sun will raise the temps but stay aware of how high the temps are inside so the plants don't get cooked!

Also keep checking the soil to see if it needs water. Use room temp water when possible - just at the soil level and not on the leaves.

A couple plans are below. More can be found online. Or contact me for a consultation and I'll help you out!
