Give Them Legroom

I started some seeds in 6 cell packs. Yes it's early, lol! I'm hoping to do some herb workshops. Also, I can move them to the outdoor greenhouse as they get larger and the outdoor temps get higher.

Now that they're up and growing, I know they'll need more legroom - room for roots to grow. Below are basil.

Recycling some 4 inch pots, filling halfway with potting soil - inside a dish pan to keep mess to a minimum. Gently removing from the cell with a fork.

The fork helps support the soil clump until I can fill around it.

I water them in with room temp water that's been sitting at least overnight so the chlorine dissipates.

I recycle plastic carry out containers as water trays and they go into the indoor greenhouse at a sunny, south-facing window.

Grow roots, grow!

I don't know if the dill will make it but it's got a better shot now!

And tomorrow will be the cilantro, parsley, calendula and tomatoes. These baby violas will go into 6 cell packs.

How about you? Have you started anything already? It's about time to start cold crop seeds that you can plant outside as soon as the ground can be worked - zone 6ab.
