Seasons of life

Seed - this is how we are born and from where we come from. Our DNA, passed down from generations before and their choices. The fruit that fell from the tree may be rotten, may dry out, may be eaten by a critter and processed. But the seed remains.

Soil and growth - this is how we are raised, who our families chose to surround themselves with, who we choose as friends. Some soil is less than perfect yet some seeds thrive in this type and prefer to be neglected. They’re scrappy. The sun beat down on them. The winds blew, The hail fell. Half their branches were ripped off. Yet they grow vigorously. Other seeds are planted carefully and lovingly in the perfect growing medium. They are checked and watered daily yet they never sprout.

Nurture and fruit - this is the everyday decisions we make, the bad thoughts we toss and the good thoughts we practice. It’s what we ingest through our senses: discussion, music, movies, culture, news, politics…We decide how to respond when we aren’t treated well. We take care of ourselves. It’s how we treat and affect others… There are some huge plants that just don’t fruit and block other plants from light. When a lemon tree matures, we expect to see fruit on the branches. If it’s absent, we may wonder what went wrong, but ultimately we turn away in disappointment. As we mature, we expect each other to blossom and produce edible fruit that enriches the lives of those around us… When there’s a tree fruiting in the wild, some might consider it a waste since there’s no humans around to eat it. But the wildlife thrive. Their needs are handled by something outside of humans. Inside our fruit are seeds of the future. Seeds of wisdom and knowledge and things the future generations need.
