Now is a Great Time to…

…use the cold weather weather to your advantage!

Why wait until the hot spring or summer days?

Here’s some ideas to get you started.

  • Build beds.

  • Repair and install fencing.

    • Protect from rabbits https://youtu.be/_PDlLRmXZAE

    • Protect from deer https://youtu.be/qPbwJeDnjQI

    • Build a simple fence https://youtu.be/svfIpO9EcfM

  • Install landscape designs like edging, rocks, irrigation systems, rain barrels, shelters like decks, gazebos and chicken coops.

  • New beds. Cover new garden plots with cardboard and soil and mulch on top of that.

  • Mulch. Add new mulch to your beds but watch for spring flowers that are just starting to pop out of the ground!

  • Prune. Anything you prune leave them in a undisturbed pile out of the way from your main garden in case critters overwintered in them.

Prune butterfly bushes down by 2/3.

Prune trees. Look for dead branches, crossing branches that are rubbing together and branches that are growing in the way that you don't want them to be. Check your trees and shrubs for vines that might be growing inside of them but use caution when removing in case they are poison ivy.

  • Cut junk trees out of your yard. Cut up fallen trees and branches and add them to your woodpile.

  • Organize your wood pile.

  • Look for mole damage and tunnels holes and so that you can decide how to deal with them so you don't roll your ankle in a hole. See how to ID who is doing the digging here: https://youtu.be/pTEzqB5wjcE

  • Take pictures of your landscape right now without the leaves so that you can make sure you have no more issues to handle.
