Earth's Mother's Day

If your planting a tree for Mom or in her honor, read this first.

Trees are an investment in the future. Protect your trees. Restore your trees.

Don't make them compete with grass.

Don't smother them and crush them with lawn mowers.

Don't take off their protective bark with weed wackers and lawn mowers and children.

Do think "donut" not "volcano" when it comes to mulch.

Do plant a small shrub and herb or perennial flower just outside the drip line when you plant orchard trees. The shrub will help slow rain water down so the tree can benefit. It will also provide some shade at its roots without blocking sun from the leaves. The herb and flowers will attract the pollinators to help set fruit. The three layers mimic what happen in nature and they all keep each other company.
