Catching Raindrops

#rainwaterisbest for your plants.

If you don't collect it yet, give serious thought to starting. It's very simple to set up and one good #rain fills a barrel quickly.

A couple tips:

Level the spot first.

Cover the ground if there's grass and weeds to make maintenance easier.

Elevate the barrel if possible to get the best flow - even if it's just at a higher point in the yard.

Get 2-3 and join them together with hosing.

"Pretty" #rainbarrels cost more.

Facebook marketplace has inexpensive ones that could be painted on the outside to be more attractive.

If you DIY the holes and fittings be sure to use plumbers tape and include an overflow hole at the top.

Fill as many #wateringcans as possible before rain falls again.

Even if you don't #garden, they are nice to have for filling #pets or #livestock waterers.

EMPTY barrels in fall before the temperatures cause the water to freeze - pushing sides and bottoms of the barrels outward, causing them damage. Proof is here! https://www.thelazynortherngardener.com/blog-tlng/z0w20sqa4zv5j79agi255vyh7pnqe7
